Jinhua's historical villages

There are 195 historical villages in Jinhua region. We present some highlights:

Siping village

Siping village was built over 640 years ago, in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and is located in Tangxi Town, in the Wucheng District of Jinhua City. Despite years of war and rain, twenty-four ancient halls remain whole, part of a traditional residential building area of over 10,000 m2. Renowned for its traditional atmosphere and variety, Siping delights and charms its visitors.

Shangjing village

Shangjing village is against Yue stream to the east, facing Houdayuan stream to the south and nearing Jiufeng Mountain to the west. It's formerly called "Fenglin village", but now called “Shangjing village” because it is a geomdeantic treasure land. Ancestor Liu Qing moved here in Northern Song Dynasty (AD 1048) and his family has been here for 36 generations. The layout of the village is sail-shaped, which means sailing a long distance through life without ever hitting the rough waters. East Zhen and West Zhen, the two streams are around the village, interspersed with ancient alley, ancient houses, ancient hall and ancient wells. The village’s building with white walls , black tiles, cornices, MaTau wallwatts, high doors and lattice windows shows a typical Wu-style structure. Wood carving, tile carving and stone carving in the building are vivid and profound, illustrating the quintessence of Chinese ancient architecture, possessing a high history, art and appreciation value. At present, the village still retains more than 50 ancient houses and more than 20 halls during Ming and Qing Dynasties, including Liu’s Ancestral Temple with 5 rooms side by side. Liu's Ancestral Temple, Baishun Hall, Liuji Hall, Qianji Hall, upstairs Hall, Xiamen Tower, Longyan well and Liu clan ancestral grave are all have been given a place on the “Provincial Cultural Heritage Site” in Jan, 2017.

Songxi village

Located at the foot of Jiguan Crag in the Baima Town, 30 kilometers to the northeast of downtown Pujiang, Songxi Village enjoys a history of more than 1,000 years. In the Tang and Song Dynasty, villagers surnamed Ji and Xia lived together in the village. The ancestors of villagers now moved to the village in the Song Dynasty, and nowadays, villagers with 18 surnames including Xu, Shao, Liu, Wang, Chu, Pan, and Ma settle down in the village. The village has more than a thousand households and a total population of more than 3,000. The seventh session of the homestay project will be held in Songxi.

Suoyuan village

Yuyuan village

Yuyuan village has a total of 760 households, with a population of 1830. Being one of the largest gathering places of people with a surname “Yu”, it is among the first group of historical villages in China, a key historical site under state protection, and a folklore cultural village in China. The village is built on the basis of the astrology designed by Liu Bowen. It currently has 1027 rooms of ancient buildings built during China’s Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. These buildings feature wood, brick and stone carvings, which are all in wonderful workmanship. Also, seven-star ponds and seven-star wells are laid out in the village. Yuyuan boasts profound cultures and close integration between human and natural scenery, being classical remains of harmony between the heaven and the mankind according to ancient philosophy, as well as a good place for explore the past and seek leisure. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, Yuyuan has nurtured about 293 scholars. At present, there are approximately 100 poems concerning Yuyuan. Qintaige, a large scale folk activity originated in early Qing dynasty, has been passed on till now. The mysterious historical village, with a history of 600 years, has a myth waiting for you to unfold.
