The National Plants of Israel

The Kalanit (Anemone) is one of the first flowers to bloom in spring in Israel, and is among the most abundant, dotting fields and hilltops with bright red highlights. As a particularly beautiful, striking flower, and one common enough to be familiar to most Israelis, the Kalanit seemed a natural choice for the national flower.

In September 2007 the olive was elected as the national tree of the State of Israel and as its official representative in the botanical exhibition “We Are One World” held in Beijing. The olive is one of the Seven Species of the Land of Israel described in the Bible.
